This quite-famous Latin phrase,"Ecclesia Semper Reformans, Semper Reformanda", simply means "the church is always reformed and always reforming". The church needs to be 1) Reformed in the first place, and 2) becoming more Reformed all the time. This involves work and sometimes (often) putting aside preconceptions that we bring in from our experience, background, previous training and education, theological tradition, and the like. We must ask ourselves a question: are we willing to dedicate ourselves to this task? This takes perseverence, study, prayer, and humility. In a previous post, I dealt with the subject of the Biblicists, who eschew tradition yet creating their own subjective tradition which has no roots in history or proper hermeneutics. Of course, they toss the commentaries because they can see just as clearly as Matthew Henry. This is an enemy of Reformation. May God grant the grace for believers here in New England to recognize the theological heritage of the Reformed faith, which flows from Scripture itself.
